Burke was born in Orange\, CA. Educated at Northwestern University\, she earned degrees in both Radio/TV/Film and French Studies. She won awards at the Seattle International Film Festival\, FIFREC-Nimes Film Festival and the Dallas Film Festival for her experimental short films. More recently\, she was awarded a $100\,000 fellowship from Warner Bros. to write and direct a short film as part of their Emerging Film Directors Fellowship\, called Urban Myth: \nNEST. She is currently directing season two of the award-winning scripted podcast BORRASCA for QCode Media. She spent the first twenty-five years of her professional life as an award nominated costume designer in a career that encompassed film\, television\, video games and music videos across many genres. \nAs a writer-director\, she now has many projects in various stages of active development. She has authored several books\, founded a nonprofit to aid refugees in Southern California\, delivered a TEDxTalk\, has lectured at universities all over the world. written a popular blog on film costume design\, and her writing has appeared in numerous anthologies and publications\, including The Guardian.
